Hello 2014 - BEAUTY/FASHION FIX (Delayed post)

Hello People of the internet world, welcome to 2014. For me personally I don't feel as though anything has changed much at all. I'm still me and I am still writing '2013' when I'm writing the date. As this is a delayed post and it's already February, I would just like to say that I'm hoping all of you reading this are having a good year so far! Soon it will be Christmas and I will be making a 'Hello 2015 (another Delayed welcome-to-the-year post). This year will fly by and so will our fashion trends and beauty fixtures. Now, let's get down to upcoming trends we will be seeing this year!

FASHION TRENDS
1. Geometrical - origami like style, new textures/prints all through geometry! Look for structured pieces that are different and quite quirky, we will be seeing this in 2014.

2. Royal Blue and Oxblood Red - 2014 is kicking things off with bold colors and fashion couldn't get any better in my opinion. Look for an electric blue that's intense and that's sure to catch people's attention. Both Royal Blue and Oxblood Red have been seen a lot in fashion shows and on celebs.

3. ORANGE is the new BLACK - That's right, colors are so big this year, and orange is coming up, so look out for anything orange that's very fashion forward and you're sure to pop!

4. Menswear inspired tailoring - 2014 is going to be big on suits for women! Tailored and fit properly.

HAIR TRENDS
~ The hair trends recently have been mainly pulled back but still 'big' in a sense, such as high buns/low buns and high pony tails. Pulled right back and smoothed down. Another trend was generally 'big' hair like i said before. Pulled back but still made big.

MAKEUP TRENDS
~ It's all about the eyes this year so look out. Bold eyes and a lip color that is either stained 'claret'/practically nothing or a darker lip. Intricate detailing on the eye of colors and eyeliner.

Thank you for reading and having a look. I hope all experiences in your year are taken and used for good, I hope you enjoyed this fashion/beauty fix! Looking forward to the rest of 2014, comment below if you enjoyed this and tell me what you're loving the most!

School Holiday Blues!

Now, we all know everyone loves school holidays (especially me), but when we end up getting to that time, we don't really have anything to do. This is just a few ideas of something you can get up to:
  1. Read: These holidays I have recently been reading a decent bit of 'An abundance of Katherine's' By John Green (I recommend). This is a good way to relax and just pass a few hours really. Get a nice spot outside in the sun and read for a good few hours.
  2. Take up Yoga/Pilates: Not only is this good for your body but very relaxing for the mind. You could either go to a class during the day or you could simply do it at home (this is what I do).
  3. Make plans with friends: Hanging with friends in the holidays is a good idea, it still keeps you social and you still get to do fun things! Grab a coffee with them, lunch, go shopping, go for a nice walk perhaps?
  4. Paint: These holidays I walked down to my local bay and bought a canvas, paint and some paint brushes. I think painting is a good way to calm and relax whilst out on the deck in the sun. I have been painting with both acrylic and water colour paints. This definitely helps pass the time and is also very fun :)
Now I have been assuming that your parents are at work and your are possibly home by yourself or with a sibling. But if you are accompanied by your parents in the holidays that sure makes everything a lot more fun. Here are a few ideas:

  1. The Zoo: I personally love the Zoo and seen as though I live in Auckland I have a fantastic zoo not too far away from me. This is always a great resort if it is a sunny day and you are in the mood for looking at some animals :)
  2. Beach day: Drive up the coast and you have lovely beaches here in sunny old NZ! Take a towel and lie down. Soak up some sun and interact with the family!
  3. Rainbow's End: In NZ we have a nice theme park called 'Rainbow's End'. It is very fun for all the family and friends and is quite affordable!
I know that this probably didn't help some of you (or most), but it was just a few ideas/things that you could get up to in the holidays!

Style-spiration: Lily Collins

Lily Collins:

This week, Lily Collins has really been inspiring me both in her makeup looks to her fashion pieces on the red carpet. Lily Collins has become my favourite actress amongst Young-Hollywood. After seeing a movie called 'Stuck in love', Lily plays a 19 year old-cynical-novel writing-teen.

Lily has changed her style over the years from being considered 'cute and girly' to 'edgy and punk'. Both her fashion style and makeup changes all the time, I think this is quite fun for a young Hollywood actress.

Lily takes a lot of style inspiration from Audrey Hepburn, both in makeup and the way she has dressed recently. The young actress has recently done a photo shoot with the theme of Audrey herself. Portraying and typically embodying Audrey herself. (Photos from the shoot, below).

One thing both Lily and Audrey definitely have in common is that they are both very timeless-beauties. Lily is a natural beauty but she definitely vamps things up for the red carpet. I love how Lily can be so natural and effortless but the next minute she can be so edgy and cool. Lily has a very defined eyebrow and that is something that she definitely plays up!

I personally love Lily's tough-cool-edgy chick look! Plus the hair, both the length and the colour takes this whole look to another level! Take a leaf out of Lily's book and go for a defined brow, a dark sultry eye colour, and dark lips!
Lily has an exquisite taste in fashion which I personally dig! She is very adventurous and I can definitely see her being a major player in the fashion world! As she was recently sitting next to Ciara, Kanye West and Kim Kardashian at the Givenchy Paris Fashion week show. She is moving into the higher ranks of fashion and I truly applaud her on this swift transition from 'girly' to 'edgy'.

Once again, I truly love Lily Collins and definitely commend her for her outstanding makeup looks and fashion choices.

Lots of Love, Heather x x x

Weekly Fashion/Beauty Fix From NZ!

Clothing: Casual- Chick, simple but dressy! Pairing a simple legging with a casual t-shirt can be so effortless but make you look like you made an effort without putting too much in! Next with the shoes (my personal favourite) JELLY SHOES! Yes they are back in style and can purchase them from Factorie.
Makeup:
Concealer- Maybelline fit me
Blush- Maybelline dream bouncy blush in the shade fresh pink
Lip Stain (Smitten) - Revlon
Eye Liner - Rimmel London
Mascara - Covergirl (clump crusher)

Clothing: Casual-lounge. This outfit is great as it is quite a dress-down look but if you are just popping into town to buy a few essentials or a quick stroll to the beach or just a laid back family BBQ (The possibilities are endless). A leisure-like jacket just for a bit of warmth perhaps. A simple pair of leggings and a print/plain tee will give the outfit a laid-back vibe. Again, the Jelly shoes really make this outfit I think. The jelly shoes are different and are coming back into style (Personally I love that).
Makeup:Concealer- Maybelline fit me
Blush- Maybelline dream bouncy blush in the shade fresh pink
Eye Liner - Rimmel London
Mascara - Covergirl (clump crusher)
Hair and Accessories: Giving your hair a slight crimp gives this outfit a more Grunge-esque feel especially paired with a black bandana. This changes up the outfit and my model seemed to love the idea!
Thanks so much to my beautiful model Marlece Jensen! She has a youtube channel where she uploads beauty/fashion/tag videos and she is amazing! Here is her blog!

Birthday time!!

Hey there fellow Bloggers :) So on the 18/08 we celebrated my Father's birthday (he was born on the 19th but we had to do it on the Sunday because the following day would have been a Monday and that would just not have worked out in our favour) and we had the greatest day and my dad had the greatest birthday too! It all started off with my dad waking up and getting ambushed with presents from overseas from the relatives and presents from my brother, mum and I. He was thrilled with all the presents (not being bias here) but he loved my montage video of memories/photos/songs that revolved around our family. It was a great start to the day we had planned ahead.

Next we headed to Ransom Winery were we see from the photos above we had a platter and an amazing view to add to that :) It was an extraordinary day as it had been raining all week and cleared up just for his special day! We made the most of the day and really soaked up all the rays from the sun!

After leaving the Ransom Winery, we headed to Sandspit were we witnessed Dolphins in the wild for the very first time! That really made the day all the much better :) You can see from the 3rd photo down and you may have been wondering what that photo was actually all about. Well now you know! The Dolphins came in toward the harbour and then they swam back out to the coast, for a brief 10 minutes we were all just in shock that we saw Dolphins for the very first time in their natural habitat and especially on my Father's birthday!

All in all The day we had was a great day! We had so much fun and then we stopped off at the Orewa lookout and took family photos (That is me and my dad). I can't say how much I love my family and proud to be apart of the Brook-clan! We sometimes argue and fight but we are family and I couldn't have asked for a better day!

Lots of Love ya'll, from Heather x x

Welcome to my blog :)

Hi there! My name is Heather Brook and I live in New Zealand. Originally from the UK I seem to have lost the accent a tad. I am trying this whole 'blog' thing out because I seem to enjoy writing and sharing my stories :) Now, I'm not sure generally what I am supposed to be writing about on here, so I will just tell you a little bit about the life of Heather so far!

As you have read, I come from England but my family and I immigrated to New Zealand when I was 8 years of age. From living in Manchester to moving to Auckland, my life changed drastically! I didn't realise the full impact of this move until I was about 12. Things were a lot different compared to the UK, like people from New Zealand replace the e's in a word to i's. As in 'pen' they would pronounce it as 'pin' and I could not get the hang of it at first but I adapted to the language :) Coming from the UK I was used to such cold weather temperatures but when I came to New Zealand it was another story totally! The weather is beautiful in NZ and they have the loveliest coasts, that is something I could only get in Blackpool, a beach. Still, the beach we always went to never had any sun shed on it. Everything in New Zealand was utterly confusing to me, like the kids always seemed to go to school with no shoes on. WHAT. This came as a surprise to my family because you would have never seen anything like this in England. There are pro's and con's to England and NZ but I now class NZ as my home and I love everything about it.

Now me, I found a few questions from the 'all about me' tag:

No, I am currently in it. Year 10 and hating it :) But we all have to do it so I don't really have a problem with it.

13. Have you been out of the Country?
Well, I come from the UK so I had quite a privileged childhood to visit a lot of countries in Europe.

10. Two Hobbies?
 playing guitar and shopping

11. Two Pet Peeves?
People who eat noisy/messily and people who don't get/understand where I am coming from or just don't listen to me.

So that is just a little glimpse into my world and I am so excited that I decided to start Blogging! I hope you guys enjoy reading about me and my thoughts on life. I love you all and hope you are having/had an excellent day!

Lots of Love from Heather x x
